Both a biography of the Czech fighter pilot Karel Kuttelwascher, famous during 1941/42 as a night intruder fighter pilot and an early look at Number 1 RAF Fighter Squadron. It also recounts the exploits of many of the ex-patriot Czech air crew who flew first for the French and later the Royal Air Force. The author is the subject's son-in-law, although Karel died in 1959 before the two met. The book covers Karel's service in the Czech, French and British air forces. What is especially interesting is the detailed accounts of early RAF intruder (night fighter) operations over France and Belgium.
